Dominique, Rob and Rylan
The Guardian has given a well-deserved warm reception and 4 stars to last night’s Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour, made by Lana Salah’s newer indie Rex TV. We also want to flag up the key role played by Dominique Walker, who came in as a consultant executive producer to shape the format with Lana which got Rob and Rylan’s Grand Tour commissioned, and Dominique supported the team throughout production and the edit.
It’s an interesting role in production where the consultant exec producer is a part-time adviser to the hands-on team, has specific skills and knowledge to add, and can lend crucial assurance to the commissioner that all will go well in addition to the production company. When there is no room for mistakes, it’s a very cost-effective way to ensure a smooth process for both network and Indies.
‘It was almost profound - and you can’t often say that about a celebrity travelogue “ Sunday Times
“This must have been one of the BBCs most random commissioning ideas. It works though and it ends up being a show that is difficult to categorise “
