Melanie Fall is an Emmy-winning, highly experienced Series and Executive Producer who has worked with the UK’s top independent companies producing thoughtful factual documentaries for global audiences.
Expert at all stages of the production process; from development, pitching and selling, to production and through to delivery, she is passionate about finding compelling narratives and likes to be involved in all the creative aspects of the filmmaking.
Melanie has worked on some of the BBC’s most ambitious landmark arts series: the highly acclaimed reimagining of Civilisations and, more recently, Art that Made Us, working closely with presenters such as Simon Schama, Mary Beard, and David Olusoga. Before that, she produced all of Niall Ferguson’s programmes for C4 and PBS and ran his production company.
Film subjects range from world history and arts to epic retrospective biographies of Henry Kissinger and David Cameron, using interviews and archive to tell the stories of the dramatic events that define their legacies.
All the projects Melanie has worked on involve complex relationships on and off screen, working closely with presenters, key contributors, agents, and premium directors, as well as nurturing and bringing on young talent. She understands that putting together the right team for a project – and keeping it together – is key to its success.
Melanie began her career working in BBC Current Affairs and has travelled and worked extensively across the world, including the US, the Middle East, and Asia, in particular China and India. She is very experienced working with fixers and dealing with challenging logistics and sensitive political situations. She is a safe pair of hands for any big and challenging project.
She is currently developing a feature documentary with Kevin Macdonald for BBC Storyville, called The Last King of Nepal.
