Gareth Johnson is an award-winning Producer, Director and Editor with extensive experience of the international TV industry. Having begun his career as an editor, Gareth has produced, directed and edited features and series for global streamers and broadcasters in the UK and US, building a reputation as a filmmaker whose work combines taut storytelling, insightful interviews and strong visuals, creating compelling and eye-catching stories on screen.
Gareth makes bold gripping films that captivate audiences. His latest hit, 'The Body Next Door' for SKY is the channel's most watched documentary ever. Famed TV writer and producer Russell T Davies called it 'ASTONISHING ... Amazing. And heartbreaking. It's cleverly told.' The series was nominated for the 2024 RTS Best Editing award and is currently on the longlist for a BAFTA.
His 2021 series, ‘The Puppet Master’ (co-directed with Sam Benstead) was a top 10 hit on NETFLIX, both in the UK and US, amassing 25 million views in the first ten days.
Gareth has a natural ability and instinct when directing on-screen talent, quickly earning trust and award-winning performances across premium series, including the Emmy award-winning 'Stanley Tucci - Searching for Italy' (CNN) and the BAFTA-winning 'The Island with Bear Grylls.'
He has directed films and series for numerous channels and streamers, including Sky Documentaries, Netflix, BBC, Channel 4, Channel 5, ITV, CNN, Discovery and National Geographic. His most recent editor credits include; ‘Coleen: The Real Wagatha Story’ for Disney+, multi-award-winning ‘The Man Who Played With Fire’ for SKY and ‘Drive to Survive’ for Netflix.
