Tim Lawton is a BAFTA-nominated documentary filmmaker based in London. His films are intimate, compelling, and thought-provoking, with cinematic visuals.
As a fledgling producer/director, Tim was BAFTA nominated for the strikingly raw, intimate and moving C4 series Kids On The Edge. As an accomplished self-shooter, Tim’s films combine beautiful aesthetics and an intimacy from behind the camera. His films often tackle sensitive and complex subject matter.
In more recent years, Tim has since series directed the critically acclaimed ‘In the Face of Terror’ (Expectation/C4), One Shot: The Football Factory (Expectation/SKY Documentaries) and has an upcoming series to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the 7/7 London Bombings (Blast Films/SKY Documentaries) He builds strong relationships with contributors, drawing out surprising and powerful stories.
Approaching two decades in the industry, Tim has a reputation for being strong in the edit – often hired as a senior EP – and has shown great versatility across a broad range of programming, from some of the UK’s best-loved formats, such as 24 Hours in Police Custody, Hospital & Hunted to original, retrospective mini-series, often involving unprecedented access and drama reconstruction. He is equally at home directing multi-camera as he is working with a DOP or self-shooting when required.
With a strong list of premium credits across all the major broadcasters, including SKY Documentaries, BBC2, BBC3 and Channel 4, Tim is passionate about making emotive and stylish films with compelling stories thoughtfully told.
